Growing a Community by Planting Seeds

It isn't often that you get to be a part of something very special.  Recently the Troy-Bilt Saturday6 team had the opportunity to visit a place in need of some help to grow the community, the Perrine Community in Florida. Together with the other 5 Saturday6 members, the Troy-Bilt team, and the Keep American Beautiful organization we put together a community garden to start the seeds that would help to grow a community.  The Perrine community is a very urban area on the southern side of Miami, FL. From the new community garden it's easy to see stores that are closed and a state of disrepair around the area but the local community is making strong strides toward changing things for the better. Two brothers in the community who own the barber shop and the dry cleaner businesses provided us with the lot to install the community garden.  Without the…

And the Results are In! (Troy-Bilt 4 Cycle Trimmer Giveaway)

First let me thank everyone who entered the giveaway for the Troy-Bilt 4 Cycle string trimmer.  I really wish I could be like Oprah. Everyone in the audience would look under their chairs and find a new Troy-Bilt 4 Cycle string trimmer, but her bank account has a much higher capacity than mine!  Thankfully though my association with Troy-Bilt allows me to give away one lawn product to someone in GrowingTheHomeGarden.com's audience. Before I announce the lucky winner let me mention that two of my fellow Saturday6 bloggers are also giving away cool Troy-Bilt riding mowers.  Stop over and visit Amy at Get Busy Gardening and Steve at The Rainforest Garden to enter. They are giving away the Neighborhood Rider which is a cool little riding mower great for smaller yards and landscapes.  Steve's giveaway ends on August 3rd and Amy's on August 5th so if you haven't already entered…

Troy-Bilt 4 Cycle Trimmer Review (TB675 EC)

This summer as part of the Saturday6 Bloggers with Troy-Bilt I tested a 4 Cycle Trimmer (TB675 EC).  I'll be completely honest and tell you that weed eating is not one of my favorite tasks in the garden.  It's necessary to keep things cleanly edged, keep weeds down, and even clean out brush areas.  Weed eaters are very useful tools. Troy-Bilt also sent me a cultivator attachment along with the weed eater to see how useful it would be in a garden setting. My overall opinion of these two pieces of equipment is both are great tools that function and work exactly how they are designed to work. The trimmer is very easy to start up which can be tricky for many weed eaters.  The instructions for easy start-up are printed on the side of the trimmer and involved a certain number of pumps of the primer button at different…

The Troy-Bilt RZT Mower

As a member of the Saturday6 with Troy-Bilt I have the privilege to test out and keep the products.  I'll even be able to give one away this summer so keep checking back for that really cool giveaway!  Today though I'd like to share with you my experiences on the Troy-Bilt RZT Mower. The 46" RZT Mower is a 0-turn mower.  0-turn mowers allow the rider to quickly turn corners and turn completely around for faster mowing.  My other riding mower has a very wide mowing radius in comparison which means I spend lots of time trying to get that last little circle of grass in a spot by changing my angle repeatedly until the grass looks just right.  The RZT helps me get really close and tight around small areas which reduces the amount of time I spend spinning on the mower like I used to do! Sometimes time…

And So I Went to Arizona with the Saturday6

Over the weekend I was able to do something that I never imagined I would be able to do and it was all because of blogging: I took a business trip for blogging. I received an email several weeks ago asking if I would be interested in working with Troy-Bilt to try out some of their products.  Of course I was interested!  On Thursday I boarded the plane for Arizona where I would meet several other bloggers and members of the Troy-Bilt Saturday6 team. The last time I was a plane was before my oldest daughter (now 7) was born.  I was a little nervous about the flight, about security, and about the trip in general.  I'm not a traveler, I'm a gardener.  I landed in the Phoenix airport on a flight from Nashville about 20 minutes earlier than the flight was scheduled.  That eased my nerves.  Everything went off…
