Gardener Gone A.W.O.L (Making Hay)

The gardener gone A.W.O.L. was me of course, but for good reasons I assure you! No doubt you are familiar with the saying “make hay while the sun shines.” Well…the sun has been shining in our Tennessee home garden. The past couple days I have been busy in the yard trying to turn this place into a fantastic garden this spring. I’m off to a good start but I have a long way to go.

My A.W.O.L. status brings to mind a question for all those other bloggers out there. When you are actively gardening will your blogging suffer? Will you have enough time to get to your computer to type out a post after you have been outside working in the garden? Will your blogging abilities be inversely proportional to your gardening activity or will it increase exponentially as new subject material becomes available? It’s a question I’ve been pondering since spring will be an extremely busy time. I’m hoping for the later situation myself. Over the last couple days I’ve done quite a few things I could talk about, but unfortunately I just haven’t had the time to write them down. The posts will be coming though. Starting tomorrow! For now I’ll wet your gardening appetite with these subjects to be talked about very soon:

Finishing the Raised Bed Vegetable Garden
Installing and planting a new bed
Adventures on a mower
The Last and Latest Daffodils of the Year
Getting my Seed Preparation Stations ready
Stone and Rock in the landscape
Beginning the Rain Garden Planting
The Wedding Plan

There could (and probably will) be more!

As a side note, there have been a few blogger issues lately and the feed seems to be a little strange. One post from a week ago was sent out yesterday. I’m not sure what is happening but I’m investigating to get it fixed. Blogger was down and nearly out on Saturday and since then things have been a bit off. If you are having problems getting the feed via email please let me know!

  1. Sometimes activily gardening does interrupt blogging about gardening…

But, the amount of material you have afterwards usually makes up for it!

  2. Those are the same questions I have been asking myself…glad you raised them. I know I don’t have a sense of balance yet but am working on it…

When ever anything goes wrong I have been sure it was my new blogger mistake, then find out blogger was acting up or down for repairs/maintenance. A few comments I have posted didn’t post and I noticed at one blog my comments were given to another commenter and hers to me. I knew it was mine I had signed my name…it was funny.

Daylight savings time and taxes have taken their toll on me tonight. Good night.

  3. Interesting question. I’ve thought about starting a blog, but I’m almost afraid that I can either garden or write about gardening…if that makes sense! Bottom line, IMO, is just do the best you can and don’t worry about it… or is that just my (in)famous laidback California attitude showing? :-}

  4. Dave, that has been on my mind also. It does seem that I am spending less time at the computer, a good thing, but there are so many things that want their photo taken and shown to the others that there might even be more, shorter posts. My blog is about pictures, with the text as an afterthought. It is so fun to have something else to do besides sit inside, even though blogging is so much fun also. Can’t wait to see your projects, you do such a good job of explaining them.

  5. I, too have been thinking about this. I just started blogging and have been able to keep up with posting. I plan on posting when the weather makes the garden really take off. If I have that as a goal, maybe that will encourage me to keep the blog updated.

  6. It’s just something I thought about. There will be plenty of material for blogging but I tend to throw myself at my projects till it’s done, which may mean collapsing at the end. The key will be finding a balance.
