While I didn’t intend to talk about weeds today I was out weeding the vegetable garden last night and had some thoughts on the weeds that I thought I would share. Worst Weed Wednesday was last week but with weeds there is always more to say so here are 5 things weeds do!
Weeds:
- Crowd out plants
- Propagate like crazy through runners and seeds. If there is open ground weeds will be found!
- Are just plain annoying.
- Block the sunlight from reaching the vegetables and ornamentals.
- Suck the moisture away from the vegetables and ornamental plants.
- Sap the nutrients from the soil making them unavailable for the “good guys”.
- Are always where you don’t want them. But then again, if you wanted them they wouldn’t be weeds.
- Can take over large areas in a very short time. They grow fast and few barriers can really stop them.
- Have the annoying habit of working their way into places you can’t reach.
And if you want my personal opinion, piece the italicized words together to make a sentence!

Ha! Love the italicized code. They do suck. I also think they have parties in my garden at night with the raccoons. When I'm in the garden in the early morning, I can hear them whispering about me. (LOL)~~Dee
Dee,
I've only seen one raccoon here but I have no doubt the rabbits and weeds have a conspiracy!
I agree, weeds do suck! I so need to work in my veggie garden to eradicate the weeds but the harvest is so full it pulls my attention away! Soon, very soon.
Weeds are definitely a pain. Thank goodness for the rain so we can weed them out!
Thing #10: They make us busy!
Heather,
My veggie garden was overdue for some weed attention! Don't let it get away from you.
Tina,
The rain has made it easier to pull but it has also made them grow much faster!
Tatyana,
Definitely!
Glad I found your page….looking forward to learning from you and reading your stories! I'm new to blogging so please do come by my page and say hi! ~Kat
In my personal experience, they attract bad bugs too! Lots of them! Gives them lots of places to hide!
Dave, you made me chuckle today. thanks for the "hidden" opinion. heh 😀
