- Seed starting Kits – There are kits that come with all you need to start your seedlings. It might be a great gift idea that your gardening friend can use almost right away in January to start those vegetable plants. Seed starting kits can include the basics like pots, soil, and a dome or even include grow lights and heat mats.
- Soil – I know, dirt for Christmas? Really? YES REALLY! Gardeners love good potting soil. There are specialized mixes for seed starting, succulents, potting mixes, and all kinds of different types.

Medium Cost Garden Gift Ideas
- Decorative Pots
- Raised Bed Garden Kits – I’m really “digging” the metal raised bed kits these days. I have one from Olle Gardens that they sent me but you can also find some nice raised beds at Botanical Interests too.
- Grow Lights – Grow lights are on my list this year too. It’s time to upgrade to some LED lights instead of the old shop lights I’ve been using for years.
- Garden Tools – Heavier duty tools like loppers, hori hori knives, wheel barrows, or pot moving carts for heavier plants can all be useful!
- Compost Bins – You can never have enough compost so gardener’s love to make their own. You can’t go wrong with a nice new compost bin!
- Gift Cards to Nurseries and Plant Companies – Go local to their favorite nurseries and they will love those gift cards and certificates!
More Expensive Gift Ideas
- Greenhouse – greenhouses are a gardener’s dream present. They come in a wide range of budgets and sizes. In most cases some assembly is required. I recommend the largest one your can afford because you never have enough space!
- Power Tools – New power tools like trimmers, weed eaters, mowers, clippers, and others can make gardening work a breeze.
- Rain Barrels – Collect the rainwater for watering your plants through the season. Rainbarrels can help lower the cost of watering the garden and provide chlorine free water to your plants.
- Tool Sheds – You have to have a place to put all the gardening equipment. Composite gardening sheds to full size sheds can be great ideas for gardeners if your budget allows for it!
Whatever your gardening friend’s interests are there is something in every price range they will love! My favorite is seeds. Seeds are low cost, very useful, and so cool to see what comes up each year. I love the experimentation! Have a Merry Christmas season!
