Low Cost Garden Gift Ideas
- Seeds – You can never go wrong giving seeds to a gardener! Try checking out Botanical Interests for some really cool seed choices!
- Gloves – I wear out my gloves every year and always need a new pair.
- House Plants – If they have the space adding a house plant or two is a fun way to garden in the “off season”
- Pruners – Pruners get old over time and you can never have too many pairs around!
- Pots – What gardener doesn’t need more pots? Find some nice low cost decorative containers for your favorite gardener!
- Seed starting Kits – There are kits that come with all you need to start your seedlings. It might be a great gift idea that your gardening friend can use almost right away in January to start those vegetable plants. Seed starting kits can include the basics like pots, soil, and a dome or even include grow lights and heat mats.
- Soil – I know, dirt for Christmas? Really? YES REALLY! Gardeners love good potting soil. There are specialized mixes for seed starting, succulents, potting mixes, and all kinds of different types.
- Gardening Hats – Gardening hats keep that sun off your head while in the garden.
- Gardening Journal – Help your green thumbed friend keep up with what they plant by getting a gardening journal to put in their plantings, plants, schedule, or other details they want to remember!
- Watering Can – A good watering can is a great idea. Sometimes you don’t want to lug that hose around everywhere!
- Plant Markers – A set of reusable plant markers can help keep your gardening friend organized. Trust me, I have lost track of what plants are in the vegetable garden repeatedly!
- Gardening Books! My favorite kind are plant propagation books but you can find something that looks interesting based on your gardener’s interests.
Medium Cost Garden Gift Ideas
- Decorative Pots
- Raised Bed Garden Kits – I’m really “digging” the metal raised bed kits these days. I have one from Olle Gardens that they sent me but you can also find some nice raised beds at Botanical Interests too.
- Grow Lights – Grow lights are on my list this year too. It’s time to upgrade to some LED lights instead of the old shop lights I’ve been using for years.
- Garden Tools – Heavier duty tools like loppers, hori hori knives, wheel barrows, or pot moving carts for heavier plants can all be useful!
- Compost Bins – You can never have enough compost so gardener’s love to make their own. You can’t go wrong with a nice new compost bin!
- Gift Cards to Nurseries and Plant Companies – Go local to their favorite nurseries and they will love those gift cards and certificates!
More Expensive Gift Ideas

- Greenhouse – greenhouses are a gardener’s dream present. They come in a wide range of budgets and sizes. In most cases some assembly is required. I recommend the largest one your can afford because you never have enough space!
- Power Tools – New power tools like trimmers, weed eaters, mowers, clippers, and others can make gardening work a breeze.
- Rain Barrels – Collect the rainwater for watering your plants through the season. Rainbarrels can help lower the cost of watering the garden and provide chlorine free water to your plants.
- Tool Sheds – You have to have a place to put all the gardening equipment. Composite gardening sheds to full size sheds can be great ideas for gardeners if your budget allows for it!
Whatever your gardening friend’s interests are there is something in every price range they will love! My favorite is seeds. Seeds are low cost, very useful, and so cool to see what comes up each year. I love the experimentation! Have a Merry Christmas season!

The fall vegetable garden is coming along! It never fails to fill me with excitement when those freshly planted seeds grow into seedlings. Especially when the seedlings were planted naturally through self-sowing as is the case with my cilantro. Cilantro is one of those expensive…
What’s Growing in My Garden?
I’m glad you asked! I’ve been updating you on the status of the raised bed garden over the last several days but I have mostly written about the structure of the garden like the mulched paths. I haven’t really written about what is growing in…
Euonymous and a Tulip
Here’s just a look at some foliage and flowers. The foliage is of an Euonymous fortunei ‘Emerald Gaiety’. The purplish tulip goes well with the bright green colors provided by the new leaves. I’ll be adding more color for tomorrow’s Garden Blogger’s Bloom Day!
Dave vs. Deer: Deer 5, Dave 0
To say I’m furious tonight would be an understatement. The deer have struck again, and again this week, relentlessly. This week’s attacks have been the most brutal by far. I normally like the deer. It’s fun to see the fawns scamper through the backyard, or…
