Through my YouTube channel I’ve been doing an end of the month tour of our garden each month. This July was a rough month for us personally and resulted in less time in the garden. Overall I’m happy with the garden this year and the produce we are getting. The tomatoes and peppers are the prime crop right now and they are doing a lot of production.
We’ve had regular rains and watering needs have been minimal but that regular rain made a perfect opportunity for fungal diseases to infect our tomatoes. Our beans are growing like crazy, finally, the squash is just about done but still has some production, and the corn is done. We grew Atomic Orange corn this year which is a corn best used for drying and grinding into corn meal, but it’s really pretty looking! The corn was not as productive as I was hoping as it had smaller cobs than the seed packet claims and only one cob per stalk. That may be due to pollination issues, planting issues, or could just be the way it is.
A Personal Note on July 2020
From a personal perspective the Corona virus hit our household. Specifically me and fortunately it was just me. During the virus I didn’t feel too bad, it felt like a weird cold. I lost my sense of taste on July 4th (that was the most disappointing burger and beer I’ve had a while) but it returned a few days later. I’ve been slowly recovering from it and still get short of breath.
I can spend some time in the garden but it’s in shorter bursts of minutes rather than the hours I could previously. I feel like I will recover completely in a few more weeks but this disease is not just a simple cold. The after effects and damage it did to my body have been worse than the actual effect during the contagious period. So when you watch the video below please understand that my garden plans this year were much higher than where it ended up.
