I can proudly say that on today, June 28, 2010, I have found the first ripe tomatoes of the year!
The tomato on the left is a Viva Italia but I forget the name of the one on the right (I really need to label the tomatoes I plant in the garden, my memory just does do everything I want it to!) I spent a little time checking out my posts from last year to see how the tomato production compares to this year and found that we are ahead of last year by at least a week. The cherry tomatoes were producing this time last year but nothing else had yet. The advanced tomato ripening is probably due to the extremely hot June weather we’ve had.

Congratulations, Dave! It's pretty early for tomatoes, at least in my area. I have several Sun Gold tomatoes ripen, but not the other types. Our tomato season usually starts at the end of July.
Those look delicious. My tomatoes have ripened & now I will have to wait for the second production. I hope I do get more. I think the heat is effecting them.
Awesome Dave! I have been harvesting a ton of yellow squash, zucchini, cucumbers, bush beans and okra here in Virginia. No tomatoes yet though. I planted tomatoes a couple weeks late this year, so I will probably be getting them later than usual.
It has been dreadfully hot here as well for June. We have August temperatures!
Congrats, hope you enjoy it. It will probably be a month here before we have any red on our tomatoes.
Nice! Bet they will be delicious!
Dave, all I have that's ripe are green onions, lettuce and herbs. My tomatoes are huge from all the rain, but I see only marble sized little green tomatoes – not cherry tomatoes.
We usually do not get tomatoes here until the end of July or mid August, and then they are come at once.

I just picked my first ripe tomato today as well!
I am soooo jealous! You already have ripe tomatoes and I just finished eating one of those aweful store-bought ones. I gotta get out of this desert. Thanks for making me salivate and fr the post. -Scott-
