Over at Ledge and Gardens in Rhode Island Layanee has put together a post about my favorite trees, maples! Layanee’s maples are mostly Japanese maples and their color is nothing short of awesome. From orange to red to gold-green these maples don’t disappoint for fall color. Included in her post are the Acer palmatum varieties ‘Omurayama’ and ‘Osakasuki’, as well as Acer japonicum ‘aconitifolium’, Acer shirasawanum ‘Aureum’, and Acer griseum. It just goes to prove that no matter what variety it is, it’s hard to beat a maple for fall color!

Thanks for hosting such a colorful project
It’s hard to beat maples for fall color–I’m off to visit Layanee to see all of hers.
Thanks again for sponsoring this project–a great idea!
I have a Japanese Maple. I took a photo a few days ago with my “deer” friends posing nearby. I’ll have to post it tomorrow (already did today’s post).

Dave: Thank you so much for this link. I will be checking some of the other links on this site. We all learn from one another and just the sheer pleasure of seeing each other’s gardens. Bringing gardeners together is a great thing!
They are remarkablely beautiful trees that have interesting foliage in the spring & fall months. I had one when we bought this house 11 years ago, but it died the 3rd year we were here from some kind of insect infestation. 🙁
