Garden Coaches: Pimp My Yard?

OK, I wouldn’t have titled the article with Pimp My Yard (I’m really not cool enough to do that) but there’s a very good article on Slate about garden coaching as an emerging horticultural profession.  Garden coaches offer guidance for do-it-yourselfers who want to learn how to garden better.  For more information beyond the Slate article go check out Susan Harris’s Garden Coaching Blog.

  1. Dave you are too funny! Love the title and I will go to the article. I do have a garden coach and the experience has been excellent. She has helped me tweek my design…you know the one I am feeling my way toward! Her visual skills have been extremely helpful; she has helped me move paths, reshape beds and edit out unnecessary plants. She lives in the neighborhood and totally understands the garden’s micro-environment.

    Happy New Year… Gail

  2. Hi Dave, you are plenty cool enough, Dave. HA I think Susan is really on to something for people that want to learn how to garden in their space but don’t know where to start. Some of us are just plain old too stubborn and have to learn the hard way, trial and error. It takes so much longer to have a wonderful garden that way, but it is the journey, not the destination, right?

  3. Dave,
I am a garden coach in the St. Charles, Geneva area – in the far western suburban area. I liked your article. I am listed in Susan’s Directory.

It is so great when you show someone how to do something they’ve been trying to do or accomplish in their garden.

I love working with home gardeners. Most want their gardens to be special spaces, but don’t always know how to achieve it. That’s of course what a Garden Coach does best. Makes what seems like insurmountable tasks into most people into what they understand and enjoy doing.

  4. Hi Dave, I missed this post and came across it googling garden coaches for veggie gardening. I found the Slate article just now too!

This is just one more example of the value of garden blogging, even for old hands like me. There’s so much information out there, and reading other blogs has helped draw my attention to some very helpful, valuable information, not to mention all the great info, tips, tricks, and experience one can gain directly from fellow bloggers. I’m sorry I missed this post initially – clearly I need to check in with everybody more often! I just need to figure out how to come up with a few more hours in the day!

Hope you’re having a great Valentines Day!
