The rains finally came! I know gardeners everywhere in Tennessee were excited to get this latest blast of precipitation. The front moved through yesterday in the late morning and continued to sprinkle intermittent showers upon us but it wasn’t until the nighttime hours that the real rains washed away the dust of August and September. The rain gauge picked up 3.5 inches of rain between yesterday and this morning which is probably more than we had in the past two months together. It was desperately needed!
The showers revealed a new world in the garden. The newly refreshed plants are beginning to revive and bring forth their last bit of growth before the Autumn temperatures truly begin to fall. The rain left it’s sign on the foliage of the purple leaf plums: tiny little water droplets resting on the purple leaves.
The mid season sunflower seed I planted in the birdbath garden has grown and now shines like tiny suns imploring the cloudy skies to reveal the clear blue Autumn skies above.
The newly constructed patio gains a look of maturity with the damp stones resting against the landscape timber edge in the entryway.
Many of the garden plants are now bowing in respect to the rains. In my mind they are saying “Thank you rain, please don’t be a stranger!” Of course it’s all in my head…the plants really don’t talk…
The soft petals of the Gaillardia are gently waving farewell to the showers.
While the asters are lying nearly prostrate in the front garden, obviously they were impressed by the gentle force of the showering precipitation.
The Russian sage can also be seen bowing in the garden. A wise sage will tell you to respect the forces of nature.
The bees are back to buzzing around the salvias thankful that the rains are past. I’m glad also, but I’m much happier that they came by!

Dave, The garden plants are still dancing with joy over here in Nashville! It has been so dusty and dry. Everything looks lush in your garden, Dave and the patio stones look like they have been there for years! It’s okay that you hear the plants talking, we all do!

Glad you had rain in TN and down here in GA we had 3 inches on our yard! If only those 3 inches could have been spread over the month of Sept I would have been happier.

Loved all the pics. Beautiful as usual even bowing to the moisture. Great job on the patio.
We are getting that shower now. My poor babies sure needed this to settle their feet & dust them off. It seems "mom" got them a little messy putting them in their new home. The older siblings are starting to show how proud they are. The much older one lost 3 blooms last night-angel trumpet. Looks as though they had been broken off. Sniff sniff. There were 5 total—now 2 little ones. Will have to watch them close.

The birdbath is a copper one that actually fits onto a deck rail. I bent the ends of it so I could attach a 4×4 post from an old wooden palette and attached it. Now it’s a free standing copper birdbath.

I agree with you, if only it had been spread out a bit more. I think we totaled 4.5 inches after last night. One inch a week would have been great!

I’m sorry to hear you lost some blooms! At least you have the rain though. Our roses lost pretty much all the petals but I’ll take the rain!
Glad you guys finally got some much needed rain. You can just hear the plants crying with gratitude after a good rain fall.
Everything looks happy and glad to be done with this summer. We got the rain too and so thankful. I have most of the plants you do also. Lots of bloomers and yours look like mine will in a couple of years. I hope. This summer was brutal on new plants. I had some that died.
