For today’s issue of Garden Blogger’s Bloom Day I can actually share with you some very nice flowers all thanks to the recent rains. The extra water perked up enough of the garden for it to be almost perfectly presentable just in time for the 15th of July. I hope you enjoy them as much as this happily buzzing bee enjoys the gaillardia!
Coreopsis is another good summer bloomer. Deadheading the spent flowers frequently helps produce repeat blooms. This coreopsis is a descendant of ‘Jethro Tull’. Sadly ‘Jethro Tull’ did not make a return tour to my garden this year.
A trip to the birdbath garden finds us with this scene:
I don’t always photograph it from this side but when it looks like this I should! The ‘Powis Castle’ artemisia provides a nice foliage contrast to the ‘Diablo’ ninebark. I need to trim back the artemisia before it gets too leggy.
Of course the sunflowers are blooming everywhere. This one seems to be thanking the sky for sending the rain. I probably should too!
Wasn't it nice to get a bit of rain at last. Still, those plants that came through the drought are flourishing. Perovskia is a lovely plants. I wonder if it can be used in cooking.
I envy you the drop-down menu bar. Is it hard to make?
I love your coneflower and black eyed susans. I want to plant those next year, I love how they look!
Beautiful flowers, and the last picture is terrific!
Dear Dave
We have been threatened with showers but no follow through !
I have Dreamcatcher BB and so far no flowers right now, but it is a gorgeous shrub !
I have Full Moon coreopsis for the first time and I am so curious as to how it will look .. little Moonbeam is right beside it .
We think alike with planting dark and light together .. I have an artemisia with Black Lace Sambucus !
Who can't love Russian Sage ? LOL
Very pretty post for this day !
Joy : )
Very Beautiful. A walk around your garden could get you into a very nice frame of mind!
Good morning Dave! Yay for the rain – your gardens are looking lovely. Wonderful July blooms.
I love purple and oranges together. Lovely show!
The purple and gray do look great together. Everything is looking nice and colorful Dave!
Dave, it looks like you have all the right plants for the type of heat we have been having this year.
Eileen
Lovely blooms Dave and I especially like the artemisia beside the physocarpus – such a lovely contrast of colour and textures. That artemsia is not hardy for me in Scotland so I use artemisia old man/ southernwood instead.
First of all Congratulations on Samuel David! Your girls must be gitty with joy over their baby brother! Another little gardener to come…
Sorry to hear the deer are moving inward. You better take charge before they do. We have our ups and downs with the critters but try our best to live in harmony. Liquid Fence does work but so expensive. Freda Cameron is smart with planting a deer resistant garden.
My Rubeckia was diseased last year as well. I was sure to remove all the diseased plants and discard them away from the compost bin. This year all the bright goldens are flourishing in the garden.
That purple tomato looks yummy! Our maters did not do well this year as a matter of fact, the last of the plants are coming out today. Not much in the way of veggie garden for me this year but best since I was missing in action so much.
Your birdbath garden sure is filling in nicely! Your surroundings are looking so established now. Amazing how quickly things grow, like those children….
Hi Dave, Love the last photo showing that wonderful summer blue sky! It's been an interesting garden season for me with having to be out of town so much~There's always next year, right!
Samuel David is a beautiful name~Congratulations again! I am so very happy for you all.

Love all your sunflowers, and I'm sure that the bees do too!
Glad to hear that you got rain… I remember the last few years well, when we thought it would never rain again! And then there is this year… perfect rain every week… not too much and not too little… a blessing indeed! Larry
I'm making the rounds late. I love your bee and that last shot of the sunflower against the sky. Images of summer.
