More Mums and the $50 Lowe’s Giveaway Ends Today!

Today I’ll show you a few more pictures of the mums but I also wanted to remind you that today is the last day to enter the $50 Gift Card Contest to Lowe’s!  The folks at Lowe’s Creative Ideas are providing anyone who comments on the mums project posts this week an opportunity to win that $50 gift card.  All you have to do is comment on this post, or my wheelbarrow planter mum post, or my October 1st mum post!  Share an idea about using mums in the garden in the comments and you are entered to win!

Here’s another look at the mums in the wheelbarrow planter.

Some red mums from the garden up close.  These are in the birdbath garden.

I actually like the daisy flowered mums more than regular mums.  Here’s a lavender colored one:

This one is called Jessica Louise.  I don’t know who Jessica Louse is but somebody must have liked her enough to name this mum after her!  The flowers are very large over 2 inches in diameter.

The last two mums were mail ordered in the spring.  I ordered several others but so far the flowers haven’t emerged yet.  Rampaging rabbits nibbled the mums down too much right after planting.

I’m still waiting for the ‘Sheffield Pink’ and ‘Clara Curtis’ mums to flower – they will be breathtaking once they do!

Don’t forget to comment!

  1. Those mums are beautiful! I love using different colored mums in my garden but never knew there were purple ones! I like the creativity of the wheelbarrow in the garden. Very nice! 🙂

  2. I prefer the daisy-flowered mums too, although Jessica Louise is also pretty! Mums do make a great colorful accent to fall decorating, either out in the garden or on the front porch in pots. I think if I had an old wheelbarrow I might do the same as you. I'm waiting for my Sheffies to open too.

  3. We use mums to line the path up to our house. We alternate between 3 colors, and it just looks so much like fall!

  4. Wonderful idea for new life for a wheelbarrow. We have never done mums, but am thinking about giving them a try.

  5. I like the daisy mums as well (though funnily enough I only have the non-daisy type ones in my garden.) I have a bed in the center of my back yard that has a big butterfly bush with fuchsia colored flowers, two different shades of fuchsia colored mums, and muhly grass (and a couple other plants). The plant combinations work really well together with all the purple tones.

  6. Mums provide great fall color. I haven't seen the daisy flowered ones around here, but that doesn't mean they're not available (it might be a little too cold). They are very attractive. I've been experimenting with planting flowers among herbs. Sometimes the flowers don't overwinter well but almost all the perennial herbs around here do. That way, there's always something fun coming up in spring/summer/fall.
