This time of year when the weather is inhospitable I take a look back through the pictures I’ve taken and informally review the previous year. That’s one great advantage when you blog, you have a record of most things and photographs of almost everything else!
Here’s a picture from September just outside our vegetable garden.
In the fuzzy foreground is a butterfly bush I made from cuttings a while back. Just past the butterfly bush is a mistflower which is almost hiding a ‘Black and Blue’ salvia. The splotches of red in the back are zinnias. Zinnias are such easy growers to include in the garden and they attract butterflies by the bazillions. I gather some seed every year and spread the seed out the following spring after danger of frost has past. Then I pretty much leave them to grow on their own.

This is an excellent photo…ah and I can't wait for spring..
Lovely photo, look forward to seeing some more colour in the garden:)
Thanks Darla!
I only wish the Johnson Grass hadn't gotten away from me. That stuff is a pain to weed. Spring, I wish it were here yesterday!
Stone Art,
Thank you, once it warms lots of color be on its way!
Great combinations – easy and low maintenance and oh, so pretty!
Cameron
I have a cute, dwarf butterfly bush that I'm going to take a few cuttings from this Summer. Perhaps one or two will root! 🙂
Cameron,
You are definitely right! Easy and low maintenance.
Shady,
I would go ahead and take some hardwood cuttings now. The root very easily and have very high success rates from hardwood. 3 node cuttings and some rooting hormone and you're set!
What a beautiful picture, it just says summer!
