One of the pleasures and purposes of garden is to feel closer to nature. I’ve always enjoyed seeing the wildlife come through the yard. Even though I’ve had my issues with deer I still like seeing them graze in the garden (as long as the deer avoid the planted garden areas). On our future home site I’ve put up a wildlife camera to catch images and video and learn what wildlife is out there.
Camera Location
I located the camera in a spot where the woods opens up into the cleared areas. It is a sort of transit zone for the wildlife to go to the open areas to graze. So far on the land we’ve seen turkey, deer, turtles, some sort of rat/rodent I haven’t identified yet, armadillo, and many types of birds. On camera we’ve really only gotten deer and a few birds.
Here’s some video of what we typically see. I’ve counted about 4 different deer so far. One a buck with 1 antler and 3 does.
Below is what appears to be the buck with only one antler.
Below is a Carolina wren in flight.
Wildlife watching can be fun to do just to learn which animals may be passing by. I keep hoping to catch foxes or a bobcat on the camera but so far I haven’t seen them at all. I’ll be putting up a second camera in a different location soon so maybe I’ll find some different inhabitants around the land.
